Curiosity Corner Competition no.31

Last week, we asked you to think of questions for Dr Sander van der Linden. This question from SA at Chiltern Way Academy was fantastic; it drew on their knowledge of the issue and questioned how freedom of speech worked! We actually thought this question would be better for our next expert contributor, Rachael Jolley, who is the editor of Index on Censorship, so we have put it to her.

TIPS FOR GREAT QUESTIONS

We look for questions that make people think about the issue. Make sure they are:

  • Debatable โ€“ make sure people could have different points of view on the answer.
  • Based on what you have learned or thought about the issue so far.

If facebook is putting up a post about how to spot fake news then shouldn’t other social media websites like instagram, snapchat and twitter do that too?

Minnie2395 I agree with you because some people could have twitter , intagram , snap chat but might not use Facebook so maybe all social media should post up “how to spot fake news. ”

Why do people like telling lies on the internet (Another way of wording this is)

People are allowed to say what they want. They have that right but aren’t there rules and aren’t rules meant to be followed? Spreading fake news is just like spreading rumours but you are not allowed to spread rumours as people become upset. I still think people have the right to tell other people their views but can they say something that is false?
