Currently, too many people have to be homeless as social housing is in crisis. Since the 1980s, when social housing made up 1/3 of all housing, it has fallen to half that figure and there a more people in need than ever.
Possible solutions are that we could build more houses, reclaim empty houses or move people out of crowded areas. All of these options vary: another solution is to repair them. Or should we?
We think we should reclaim empty houses. Some houses are not used as they are not as they are broken. Once we have reclaimed them we should make more.
We think this is the best idea as houses are being made without permission. Most houses are cold and empty. Some are empty as they are broken.
Unfortunately, if we make more houses we would be wasting money. This is because there is not enough space.
The reason there is not enough space is because people are building houses and flats without finishing. People are also trying to sell unfinished flats.
We may have to take people away from their community. Also, we may have to take people out of their comfort zone. This may lead to protesting.
To stop this, we will try to find accommodation or reclaim empty houses. Maybe we should also build some more once we have fixed this problem.
In conclusion, I think in the short term we should reclaim empty houses and fix them as this is the most affordable option in terms of time, money and space. Then we could find the money to build new housing for the long term solution.
