Here at the Graveney BNC Newsroom, we have been discussing the new issue and have thought of some interesting questions that really made us wonder.  We would really like your views on these!

Is football even a sport anymore or is it just a business?

Are events like the Olympic Games and the World Cup only awarded to countries for political reasons?

Should Russia have been allowed to host the World Cup in the first place considering their involvement in the invasion of Crimea and the Ukraine and their support of Syria’s president Assad?

Is amateur sport the only form of true sport?

Please respond to these as we would really like to listen to your thoughts on these topics!!!

  1. Hi Graveney!

It would be great to hear your own answers to these questions too.

    Here is my response:

Is football even a sport anymore or is it just a business?
I would suggest that football is both a sport and a business. Football clubs make lots of money from merchandise, sponsorship, ticket sales etc, but this relies on fans of the sport purchasing these things. TV channels only pay so much to show matches because they know so many people will watch it.

Fans love the sport itself and therefore create the business of football.
    What are your thoughts?

Football is definitely a sport but maybe in next few years it will be both a sport and a business
