Weekly Competition #18

What a fantastic selection of stories!

Last week, we asked you to be open minded about Goldilocks in the story of her escapades in the three bear’s house. We saw excellent empathy and understanding as well as some wonderfully imaginative stories. It was particularly impressive when BNC members had a go at linking the story to Catalonia and independence! Well done to everyone who entered!

Congratulations to Colegrave and St Saviour’s & St Olave’s, who were our winners this week. Pinkslushie19 understood that upbringing and morals might be different for different people and this showed open-mindedness. They also showed forgiveness and understanding, which are positive traits of someone who keeps an open mind.

NKL remained open minded throughout and had a suggestion for every event in the story, which was very creative!
You can read the full stories from Pinkslushie19 and NKL in the comments below.

This week’s competition is now closed. You can enter the current competition by clicking here.

I think Goldilocks behaved like this, because she could smell the porridge through the open door and couldnt resist it. She probably loved porridge.

I think that Goldilocks behaved like this because she maybe was really hungry and smelt the porridge coming though the window and her favorite food might of been porridge .Also she couldn’t resist not eating it.

We believe that Goldilocks behaved this way because she was on her own. The bears were all in it together so they were stronger as a group then they would’ve been if there was just one of them. It was a bit unfair on Goldilocks as she must’ve been scared having three (rather large) bears chasing after her trying to get revenge. Also, we don’t know the story behind what might of happened so, you never know whether the bears did something to her to make her do this as revenge. This is like an independent country being attacked by a whole nation (Goldilocks being the independent country and the three bears being the nation) NOW THAT WOULD BE SCARY!! ………If you were Goldilocks of course..

She may have done this because she could have had a terrible past as a slave and then ran away and found the bears home, and because she may have been a runaway slave she could’ve just been enjoying her new found freedom which is why she was so fussy . Although we don’t know when her story was set ,i also think that bears building homes and making porridge would be a long time in the future . Another idea of mine is that in the future humans could have abandoned all of society and ran away to the woods or another planet , leaving earth to the bears. and poor old Goldilocks is a runaway orphan and so gets lets behind . she is just a child and doesn’t know much , and so wanders off into the bears home . As i said she was a runaway orphan so probably never got to be fussy with the food she finds , so having the choice between 3 bowls of porridge , 3 beds and 3 chairs she realises that she has a choice . After everything she done , she is very tired and so falls asleep . when the bears come home , they are ever so confused because the humans left Earth 99 years ago . seing a human , they dont know how to react and so freaked out and chased her out of their home .

Goldilocks behaved as she did because perhaps she was hungry and needed the meal that suited her apatite, and remember she was only a child so extremely hot or cold food could not sustain her through the day whereas food that was at the correct temperature was more suited for her. After this meal she needed a small rest hence why she sat on the chair and accidentally broke it. She then needed a nap so she went upstairs to sleep and her back is delicate so she needed a bed that was soft and comfortable and a bed that met her needs. And remember she was left abandoned in the woods as a young child.

This could mean she had never had quite that much of rich food. Also when talking about the bed she wanted something she had never slept on so that’s why she slept on the young bears bed .Thank you for reading hope u have enjoyed.

I think she felt this way because maybe before in her life she was a slave or was having some hard times or it could be that she lives in a broken down home and when she comes across this beautiful house she could be looking for a friend or just admiring the house when she noticed the door was open she went in and at the time maybe she was looking for someone young to play with or wanting to compliment the owner on what a beautiful house then when no one was home she walked in and maybe she hadn’t eaten at home and there was delicious porridge on the table what little kid who hadn’t eaten properly wouldn’t go for it?Then she sits on the chair maybe she was waiting for the owner to get home to apologize about the porridge but when the chair broke she wanted to apologize about that to so decided to go and sit on a bed but it was too comfy so lied down and fell a sleep.

In my opinion,I believe that Goldilocks did what she did for many good reason. How would you feel if you were wondering through the jungle and you could smell your favourite food? What would you do?She must of gone there because it was about to rain but the author didn’t say it in the book maybe to make the reader think more. She also could of gone in because it was cold or she was a refugee, you really can’t blame a little girl who just ended up in a house. Okay, yeah she broke a chair but she never knew.We shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover. She maybe didn’t eat at home.Maybe she wanted to compliment the owner of the house.Just like Catalonioa she was new and maybe she had to learn a new language and never knew when you see a house or door that is open. After all,she did eat and must of burnt her tounge and she was tired and after the owner came she was gonna apologise.

I think that Goldilocks behaved in that manor because:
    1. She could of been really hungry,
    2. She could of been treated badly and was not given enough food,
    3. She might of had limited food so she was a bit hungry even after her dinner,
    4. Might of refused to eat at home,
    5. She might of ran away and needed to rest so she slept on baby bears bed and she also she could of been really tired and needed a sit down before going to bed. Moreover if she ran away then she could of been starving so she needed to have food so she at the porridge,
    6. She might be scared to go home so she thought that this house could be a place where nobody lived so she could take the home and make it her own and
    7. She might be a refugee and needed to stay somewhere to call home until further notice.

  22. I think Goldilocks was not aware it was the bear’s house and took advantage of this. I think she was being spoilt as she grew up so that was why she was very fussy and careless and had expectations. Another option is she could have been very unfortunate so when she had the chance to get food and rest she took it without thinking of the consequences.

I think that Goldilocks behaved like this because she thought that since the door wasn’t locked, she was able to go in. I think she did this because she was hungry and couldn’t resist the smell of the porridge when she past the cottage. I agree with# RainbowUnicorn246 and #NKL because in my opinion i believe that maybe Goldilocks might have been having a hard time in life and she was poor and had nothing to eat for a while so she wondered into a house were the door was opened and she could smell her favourite food witch was porridge and it was to tempting for her not to go in and taste the food so she did.I think Goldilocks was not having the proper care that she needed as a child so she was interested at seeing such a wonderful and beautiful ginger bread house like the one that she saw and entered. In my own humble opinion i think Goldilocks is a good person on the inside and the outside.like come on lets get real here,if you put yourself into Goldilocks shoes would you not do the same thing she did.I mean even though she broke 3 different size beds she is still a good person even if she is not in this situation and this state at the moment.

I think Goldilocks behaved like this because her behaviour was manipulated or changed to make her behave in the way that she did (behaviourism). Maybe she was brought up believing that she could go to anybody’s house and start judging the way they do things is different compared to how she does things (e.g.; porridge being at a certain temperature). She could have been brought up in a way that tells her that she will be forgiven. Also, if we keep in mind that goldilocks was a little girl, she doesn’t know much about the world and people’s mindsets so some may argue that she isn’t really to blame for what she did. In conclusion, I think Goldilocks behaved this way because she was expected to be forgiven; this expectation might not have been her fault because someone or something may have manipulated her into thinking the bears would forgive her and she isn’t old enough to have her own moral beliefs about what to do.

I think that goldilocks did that becuase she might be in sacure and feels she has to juge people. Also she might j not have food or the beds or even a house like the bears do.I think that we just shouldnt think that she did out of pure unkindness she might not have eaten and she might not have a great family like the bears. Goldiocks might not even have a home she might have thought that the house was emtey.she was probably just checking if anyone one was home.she did break a chair but it was kind off the bears fought she ended up in there they left there door wide open and when the bears came back she did seem very sorry.

I think goldilocks behaved like this because she was lonely, even though just because she behaved like this doesn’t mean she meant it. Just because the way goldilocks reacts to things doesn’t mean we should judge her because we react like this as well. The way we react can hurt other people’s feelings. For example: when you get a present from a family member and you don’t like it you wouldn’t want to hurt there feelings even if you don’t like it. The moral of this comment is you shouldn’t judge how people or characters behave because you don’t know if they really meant it . starrainbow

I think goldilocks behaved like this because she could have been extremely poor, hungry and scared. The reason why she broke into the bear’s house was because she smelt the porridge and felt an urge to have something to eat. She must have been tired as well because she saw the chairs and felt another urge to have a relax, but when the chair broke she was still tired after having another rest so she had a bit of a look upstairs and found the beds and she eventually fell asleep.

I think the concept of Goldilocks was aimed to children. If I replace the porridge with money and that baby bear had the most money, would you go for the most money? If I replace the chairs with computers and that baby bear’s was the latest, would you go for the most high-tech one or the old, slow and laggy laptops? How about if I change baby bear’s bed into a phone. What if baby bear’s bed was an apple X (is that what they call it?) and the others were shakespeare books?

Goldilocks just picked the best option like anyone else would. You would probably be dying for all these new technology yet because we are in the modern world, we aren’t thinking about the story in depth. At that time it would probably be the right thing to do and it would probably sound normal. However, us as modern day children think that this would be sort of weird. In my opinion, I think Goldilocks did the right thing just like anyome else would at that time.

  39. I think Goldilocks behaved this way because she was simply lost and cold; looking for shelter and comfort. She was lost in the woods, and the bears’ home was the only one in sight. As an instinct, she entered the home, with no intention of stealing. Being tired and hungry her only choice was to eat the porridge right for her, as she was having a bad day ( and she didn’t want the porridge to go to waste). Almost asleep, she needed somewhere to rest, the first thing she saw, were the chairs. We all want to sleep comfortably and the baby’s chair was perfect for her. It possibly would’ve broken because it was weak ( the baby bear might’ve used it since the early stages of development). Because it was broken, she had no where to sleep, luckily, there were beds. She lost track of time, and was caught. Being a child, she didn’t want to get into trouble, so her instinct was to run. This is why Goldilocks acted this way.

  40. I think the reason Goldilocks did this is because she was lost and cold, she also was probably very hungry and not aware that she walked into a bears home. The only thing that Goldilocks saw was the building right in front of her when she entered her only intension was eat the porridge and a good rest. Goldilocks was half asleep and needed some rest but she wasn’t weary that bears were living their. The reason I think Goldilocks acted this way is because she took advantage that the bears weren’t there but when they arrived back at home Goldilocks realised what she had done was in the wrong.
    GoGooN’gozi

  41. I think Godilocks behaved this way because she was careless and lost in the woods and was most likely to be hungry which made her crave for the bear’s porridge by its smell. She probably didn’t think of the consequences and thought she might not get caught. I also think when she was younger she might have been abandoned and had to be independent and thought that the only way to get food and rest was to go into somebody else’s house.

  42. Goldilocks is a young child and probably just wants attention from her parents. Also, she probably thinks it doesn’t matter what happens to bears as they aren’t humans. As well as this, there is a random house in the middle of the woods and any young child would want to investigate or explore. Finally, she is a kid and her actions should be are her parents responsibility and violence is not the answer in the 21st century.

I think goldilocks behaved like this

  44. I believe that Goldilocks may have behaved in this way as she could be trying something different and believes it will benefit her – it may make her feel better about herself. However, because she is trying out something new, for the first time, she is unsure about what she wants therefore she is being cautious and is trying everything so she can find which is best for her, she is being very adventurous. For instance, for her to find the perfect bowl of porridge, she must taste each one first. This is a natural instinct and something any human would do which could show that she is exactly just like us, though depicted as a spoilt and rude brat by the bears.

This story could represent Catalonia currently. This is because at the moment Catalonia is trying to fully leave Spain. Catalonia may be doing this because they believe that if they leave Spain their economy will grow, their country will be more productive and they will become more powerful therefore will be more successful. This could be like Goldilocks as she decided to do something new because she wants to be happier and like Catalonia wants to be more successful. Catalonia may be unsure of how to approach this new step and how to deal with other countries which is like Goldilocks when she is unsure what is best for her. Finally, right now, Spain is not supporting Catalonia and is actually attempting to stop it from leaving with immediate action such as deposing Carles Puigdemont, the Catalan President, this is similar to the bears in the story as they don’t like Goldilocks at all and decide to take immediate action attempting to capture Goldilocks.

  45. This story is kids fable with the moral being about how your actions can affect others – google it – although it is a very short and simple tale it can relate to many things in real life, such as Catalonia wanting to leave spain. If Catalonia left then travel would become more complicated same with the olympics. Sorry, off topic thought I might add that in. As I said the story is short, therefore we only get the backstory of ‘she was walking in the woods’ she may have just come back from being told of by her parents and so wanted to ruin someone else’s day but got carried away. But we have to be open minded, so, she could have just come back from school or some other tiring activity she could have even simply been lost for a while. She saw a house a house and smelt porridge. What would you do: blunder on aimlessly or pop in super quickly to grab a drink and some porridge, probably the latter(the last one). Now your in. Your really tired, like half asleep. You sit down, too big too soft, just right. You don’t realise this chair is incredibly time-hounored and soon breaks. Barely awake, you stumble into bed. You wake up three huge bears. Your natural instinct is to run away. Goldilocks might also be too spoiled for her own good and so has expectations.

I think that Goldilocks ate the porridge and broke the chair because she might have been hangry (angry because you are Hungary) and wanted to try something different as she may never have eaten porridge before. I think that Goldilocks behaved like this because she felt like she could break in to any ones house and be miserable about it. Like when she said that the food was too hot or too cold. In my opinion, I think Goldilocks behaved this way because she was simply lost and cold, and whilst she was looking for a place to stay she found the bears home. – not knowing that it belonged to the them- she decided to eat the porridge because she had no food to eat. I think Goldilocks was a bit fussy whilst trying to find the correct tasting porridge because she must’ve been raised up in a poor family (making her stubborn, and wanting to have what she wanted and never getting it). I also think that she thought she could break into anyone’s house, because she hadn’t had any education so she wouldn’t know right from wrong.

You don’t have to have an education to know right from wrong. Your parents should be able to tell you. Being in the woods could imply that she was lost and obviously didn’t know where to go.When she saw the house, she must’ve been relieved and, being the little girl that she was, eventually went into the house thinking that she had the authority to do so.

I postulate that it has something to do with the way she is treated at home. Some may say that she is a stereotypical, aristocratic, spoiled brat, however this is also typical behavior for a kid who is neglected. Their ego is so bruised that it makes them want to better than people (or at least make them feel what they feel), so they start bullying in order to feel the attention they lack at home. At home, she might be scared, not well cared for but outside she doesn’t have to be that person. She could be Miss pretty and popular. So in order to maintain that image, she would act like that in everyplace that isn’t her home.

    1.she had nowhere to go.
    2. she was a young girl so she didn’t know what to do.
    3.she needed food.
4.maybe she was tired from all the walking, so she tested out the beds.
5.she was fussy about all theses thing because she was a human and not a bear like the others.
6.I think she left because she was surprised about the bears coming back to the house so quickly.

I think she might have done this because she smelt the sweet scent of sugar or honey on the porridge. Maybe she was being fussy because she was greedy, selfish and mannerless. But she was a child and children make mistakes even adults make mistakes.she may have been lost or bored . She could have had no food for days. These don’t make this right . Little miss singer

I believe that Goldilocks behaved in this manner because that she was very curious about the bears house and wanted to explore as much as much as possible. Also she might of been starved or neglected at home so Goldilocks had never tried hot food before so she didn’t know how to handle hot food, that’s why she turned down the hot porridge.

I think Goldilocks behaved this way because,
    1. She needed somewhere to stay
    2. She was fussy about the food because she was really hungry
    3. She was fussy about the beds and chairs because she walked a lot so she decided to have a rest
    4. I think she was she was overwhelmed when all the bears came in because she didn’t realize anyone would be home so soon

AngleDevil I agree with the fact about Goldilocks being hungry and tired however she had no authorization to enter the house only because she needed somewhere to stay. Apart from that, I agree with all of your other reasons about why Goldilocks went into the house without any authorisation

I think Goldilocks did this because she was hungry and couldn’t resist the smell. She may have left her house hungry and tired or else she wouldn’t have found a comfortable bed to sleep on. I think that Goldilocks should take responsibility for her actions and I don’t think that her being a little girl is an excuse for breaking into someone’s
house. If she was so young I don’t think that she would be so picky about which bed to sleep on. However she must’ve been in the forest for a long time and got lost which explains why the resistance towards the porridge scent was strong.

I think Goldilocks did what she did because she didn’t know that she was affecting the bears and destroying their personal things and she might have been pretty tired. Plus we don’t know if she had a family but if she didn’t have one she wouldn’t have a lot of manners because she wouldn’t have parents or other people to learn them from. In addition she probably thought that the people in the house wouldn’t mind if she took a little nap in their house.

I think Goldelocks behaved like this because she might be poor or homeless, but I mostly think she was lost, out of food and low of sleep. Her Mum threw her out due to bad behaviour and lack of honesty (that’s how she got lost).Out of food because she is allergic to bugs, birds and bees;her allergic reaction to creatures means she can’t sleep otherwise she’ll have that reaction.

I think that Goldilocks behaved like this because she felt that everything should be served to her on a silver platter. This is saying that she didn’t like what she had at home so she went on search for something better. She didnt worry about the fact that the things were not hers. I think this could relate to other stories where children have been spoilt. I thought this as i have read a sequel version to the origanal copy. I think this will relate to Catalonia because Spain is ignoring all their good culture, language and flag.
By the way i got inspiration from the last from pancake flipper ( i think it is that name) so well done to you!

I think Goldilocks behaved like this because she was hungry. People can do stupid things when they are out of sorts and I think that a warm home with food was too tempting. She could’ve resisted but it must’ve been too hard. Also, we do not know what happened before Goldilocks entered the three bears’ house. She could’ve been treated badly or scared in the woods.

I think that Goldilocks behaved in this way because she felt neglected and alone and didn’t have any where to go, she must’ve thought that someone was home. Also, she was feeling hungry and couldn’t resist the smell of the porridge, she could’ve left home without any food. She was feeling exhausted and thought that she could stop at the house. It suggests this when Goldilocks goes upstairs into the bear’s room and tries every bed until she could drift off on the right one. I don’t think that it was right for her to be so fussy with the porridge, chair and bed. On one hand, if I was Goldilocks, I wouldn’t gone into the house because anything could’ve happened and when the three bears arrived home, they could’ve eaten her. On the other hand, if I was Goldilocks, I would’ve gone into the house because she could’ve been hungry and didn’t have anywhere to go. She could’ve been inquisitive as she was a little girl and she might’ve not known the consequences.

We think that Goldilocks behaved like this because she wanted to annoy people and the reason is because she was being naughty that day. Because the bears are angry and wanted to wind them up. Also she wants to see how unhappy they will be when thay get home to there house. To see them react when they get home. She is fussy about the porridge just like Spain with Catalonia’s power. Goldilocks felt quite mischievous because she broke into someone’s house and she doesn’t now what was in the house. Goldilocks fits into all of the babie bear stuff but then it all bracks into lots of tiny pieces of wood and he is sad when the babie bear gets home. She also felt happy because she got away with it before the bears got home to sleep but there beds were broken.

    Hi it is piggy26
Goldilocks did this because she was in a very bad and grumpy mood and she was so rude to all the bears . She behaved like this as wanted to see how MMMMMMMAAAAAAAAAAAADDDDDDDDDDDD! the bears would be. I think they have chosen this competition as the bears were mad at Goldilocks and Catalonia is mad at SPAIN! Catolonia is fighting like Goldilocks got beaten up by the very aggressive, long claws .Goldilocks was very fussy with the porige like Catalonia’s power! The power of Catalonia is UUUUUNNNNNNNFFFFFFAAAAAAIIIIIIIRRRRR!! Goldilocks was very very very very naughty that day so I hope she had a very mean and evil and viely punishment…

I think Goldilocks behaved like this because she was hungry and just wasn’t thinking at the time. As this is an old story they didn’t have alarms in their houses so they had no technology.I don’t think she meant to eat their food and she thought that someone abandoned their home or left it as a trap or treat for her.

  87. St Peter's Primary School St Peter's Primary School

I think Goldilocks behaved like that because she thought everything should be gold and silver for her, I really did not like the fact that because the bears weren’t there she thought she could do whatever she wanted and mess with their belongings. It was a really bad choice and I hope that in another book they write about how she goes back to the house and apologises to the bears, and they become friends again.

Goldilocks was just by herself in the forest, therefore she may have a hard background and be lost. She came in expecting it to be a abandoned.(The easily broken chairs.)Therefore she was only looking for comfort and food, not to be a really badly behaved child.

  93. i think Goldliocks liked little bears porridge because it was sweet and we all have different opinions eg: should Catolonia be independent or not its a free country so we think differenet thinks and we like different things.
