Weekly Competition #15

Last week, we asked you to be curious about the word 'NATION' and write a RECIPE for an imaginary nation.

Wow! Your entries were brilliant; not only did they show a really good understanding of the key word, they showed some excellent knowledge of cooking and baking!

Congratulations to Harris Academy Beckenham, who wrote their recipe as an acrostic. It had a really positive tone and focused on unity. Congratulations also go to Foxfield Primary School, who suggested a government full of listeners, sunshine AND a mix of cultures. We think that would be a great nation to live in!

This competition is now closed. You can enter the current competition by clicking here.

    Recipe for a perfect nation:

Please not: this is a recipe for a perfect nation so if you struggle to find/create all the ingredients a nation may still be created but it will not be as nice. If you have limited resources or money the larger amounts of ingredients are the most important.

    Ingredients:
    -1kg of people
    -800g of a leader
    -700g of laws
    -850g of rights
    -850g of responsibility
    -600g of money
    -425g of land

    Method:

    1) First of all carefully mix all of the people into the land until they are evenly mixed through and have space.

    2) Next, add the laws and rights to create the perfect amount of security so that it isn’t dangerous and the people are safe. Don’t forget to add the responsibilities with the rights as they go well together.

3)Also, add the money but be careful not to add too much or it could be a greedy nation.

    4) Finally, add a strong, reliable, selfless leader to rule the nation and to keep it sweet. Without this, all the hard work will be wasted.

The dish of a Nation may sound humble but is one of the most convoluted recipes that one could understand. The arenaceous land lays ravenous for its personality and its unique characteristics. Abruptly a gush of a government comes into the land of honour and gratitude. One by one the land becomes more full with people ruling each corner of each land selfishly with their own selfish hearts. Gradually a mere cup of loves comes into the ruling land in which the hearts of senseless politicians change hatred turns to love unfairness turns to justice and grubby lands turn into parliamentary plans. A sudden sense of security comes into the perilous land with predators turning away from the new sense of harm. Yet people see that war may turn our way so a sudden sense of sensibility and agreement fills the land with hope and peace with our loving hands.A gush of greenness fills the land of faithful loving gentle hand who plant us plants in stability and plans. This Nation now flourishes day by day night by night by the humble fays.

    -GoldenPanda

  15. Moving on, we repeated our research strategy with 48 countries or regions, from Australia to Vietnam. Drawing on four decades of cultural indices as well as national well-being, corruption and GDP-per-capita data, we replicated some of our previous individual level relationships, but found them to be significantly stronger at the national level.

Repeatedly, values were key predictors of a successful nation but often in contradiction to popular or anecdotal advice. In stark contrast to the economic historian Niall Ferguson’s widely promoted killer cultural apps aimed at achieving prosperity, promoting the need for achievement as well as materialism, values associated with masculinity, is terrible for a nation, both in terms of happiness and wealth. Worse advice than Ferguson’s has rarely been given.

  27. Preheat the oven to 180*C , carefully measure out 75g of culture this will give the nation a unique spicy taste. Then add 50g of law this will help the nation to rise. Now add 30g of free will, with this be sure not to add too much law because it will overwhelm the pureness of freewill and force the nation to split . Finally crack three eggs of community this will calm down the bubbling nation when it is feeling the heat.
