Weekly Competition #23

International Women's Day Gender Equality

Well done to everyone who came up with brilliant hashtags last week for International Women’s Day’s #PressforProgress campaign. It was really good to read a range of suggestions and we’re feeling positive that change will happen if we put these words into action. As the Suffragettes said “deeds not words”!

Congratulations to Oasis Don Valley, who focused on dream, goals AND equality. We also really liked the entry from Allhallows that spoke of seeing the person, not the gender and being a role model to others.

Well done, everyone! This competition is now closed. You can enter this week’s competition by clicking here.

I will #PressforProgress to never make fun of a girl playing with a boy just or reject a boy from playing with me just because they have different genders. It dose not mean that we can’t accept someone for who they are nor should we do this because of there race or skin colour

I will #PressforProgress and when playing a sport that involves passing the object to another person (like when playing football or benchball) make the passing go in turns of boy and girl. This means that if the game started with the first pass to a boy, the next pass would have to be to a girl. The boys in my class when playing sports often just pass between themselves; they’ll rarely ever pass to a girl.

Gender equality : I will #PressForProgress by educating children and adults by teaching them in assemblies and showing real life drama scenarios to raise awareness about how women and men are treated equally, starting from my school. In order to achieve gender equality, we need to have girls’ and adult females’ voices to be heard as well as males’ for important tasks and important decision-making. In the school, we need to give girls images and role models that expand their leadership and ideas as well as boys and value their ideas and leadership achievements.
In my opinion, I feel that inequality for women is outdated and wrong. In today’s society, women should be acknowledged as well as men, however clearly this is not proving the case. Recently, BBC news’s China editor, Carrie Gracie was a victim of pay discrimination and therefore resigned recently because other news editors who were males were generally paid more money than females.

I think that it is unfair that people treat women and girls differently to men. We should all be treated the same and fairly. Women have had made such amazing discoveries e.g. Ada Lovelace, she worked with charles babbage to create a machine. As I say again, women should all be treated the same ! #helpthewomen !!

    mexico anthem
Mexicans, at the cry of battle
    lend your swords and bridle;
and let the earth tremble at its center
upon the roar of the cannon.

Your forehead shall be girded, oh fatherland, with olive garlands
by the divine archangel of peace,
For in heaven your eternal destiny
has been written by the hand of God.
    But should a foreign enemy
Profane your land with his sole,
    Think, beloved fatherland, that heaven
gave you a soldier in each son.

    CHORUS

    II

War, war without truce against who would attempt
to blemish the honor of the fatherland!
    War, war! The patriotic banners
    saturate in waves of blood.
War, war! On the mount, in the vale
    The terrifying cannon thunder
    and the echoes nobly resound
to the cries of union! liberty!

    CHORUS

    III

Fatherland, before your children become unarmed
Beneath the yoke their necks in sway,
May your countryside be watered with blood,
    On blood their feet trample.
And may your temples, palaces and towers
    crumble in horrid crash,
    and their ruins exist saying:
The fatherland was made of one thousand heroes here.

    CHORUS

    IV

    Fatherland, fatherland, your children swear
to exhale their breath in your cause,
If the bugle in its belligerent tone
should call upon them to struggle with bravery.
    For you the olive garlands!
For them a memory of glory!
For you a laurel of victory!
For them a tomb of honor!
