Well, looking after the environment, is very important, especially trees. No trees,no oxygen ,no us.
Looking after the animals is important as well.No nutrition, no healthy body.

Well, no fresh air and oxygen can lead us DYING.you won’t die even if you don’t have meat.

I think look after the environment is more important.Comment if you agree,or disagree.

Well, looking after the environment is very important, as it can look after their homes and ours and our surroundings. If we just look after the animals ,Itll be good for them, not good for you ,since, were just looking after their houses and stuff so we can eat.If we look after the environment, we can look after both, and some trees and plants.

Do you want deforestation to happen again?Well, obviously no.

LOOK AFTER THE ANIMALS THAT MEANS WERE LOOKING AFTER BOTH,NOT JUST THE ANIMALS!!!!

I think that both are very important as animals are part of our nature and in certain diets you eat them to survive, and the Environment because we live in it.

I personally believe both but if you had to pick one then i would probably pick environment because if the environment wasn’t good (if there was litter all over the fields and roads) then the animals and livestock on farms will slowly not be able to get the healthy air. I also believe environment because if the environment wasn’t very good then us (humans) will end up getting bad lung diseases or asthma. even tho having animals is very important for food and for company, but without a good environment the animals won’t be able to live and be happy and healthy.

Hi we believe that helping the environment is important because if we help the environment we can help stop the world from pollution which can stop people from diseases and animals. If we help grow flowers grass and all other plants that animals can eat,no mater what one you choose they both need each other. Also we need the environment because we wont be able to breath without trees which is part of the environment.

Event though I think it is very important to look after animals, it’s even more important to look after the environment because if we didn’t look after the environment then what are the animals going to eat or live on? It’s not just the animals that are getting affected its also us humans because if we didn’t look after the environment then our health will be at risk. We would be more vulnerable to conditions that effect our breathing.

I understand that animals need the looking after and we do not want our animals to get ill on the other hand us humans need to protect everyone and everything . It would also affect farmers because they might lose their jobs because it might not be acceptable to grow crops on the land .

There are a number of ways in which our environment can be damaged. One factor that affects our environment is known as ‘pollution’ and is when the air is filled with too many harmful gases such as carbon dioxide and methane. Our environment can also be damaged when small holes in the ozone layer around the earth let harmful amounts of sunlight reach the earth. Even though this information is known by lots of people, the environment is soil being damaged because not a lot of people realise how important it is to humans.

In my humble opinion, I think that looking after the environment is more important because I recently learnt that when a cow farts it releases methane gases which damages the environment so we should all work together to protect the environment. But I also think that the animals are important to because they give us food to eat.

Yes but (as I have said a lot of times) if the environment is good the animals will be healthy. And it would not matter if the cows release methane gasses because we are making the environment good so it would only hurt it a bit and then the environment will get better again.

Neither is superior in my opinion. Without an environment, there would be litter, mess, things being in the wrong place. Without animals, foods like egg and milk would be beyond our reach. But also, if I were to be an animal I would choose the lives of animals yet I would be cautious. The world wouldn’t be the same without one of them. If one of them never existed, then it would bring out would to the cusp of doom.

I personally think that the environment is more important than the living of animals and this is WHY:
If we looked after the environment then we don’t really need to worry about the animals because if the environment impacts the health of the animals, right? Well if the environment is good, all though animals that are getting impacted will be healthy and so the environment and the animals will be healthy and a good atmosphere to be and live in.

I think we should look after the environment because then we could also look after the animals. Animals are very important to the environment but the environment is at risk. Since my year 5 class have learned about deforestation, I think we have to do something about plants first. For example, these days lots of people tend to love avocado, because it’s fashionable. But, in order to meet this demand, countries growing avocados cause illegal deforestation. Is being fashionable a good reason for deforestation? I don’t think so. If you do not agree\agree please comment back. I’d like to hear other people’s arguments.

I think we should look after the environment first, because, after all, animals are part of the environment and by looking after the environment, we are looking after them. Also, without a thriving ecosystem to live in and be part of, the animals couldn’t exist in the first place. By prioritising the environment, we would be giving the animals a better chance at life.

I think our environment because it is the most important thing in our lives. Even if you research up the definition of environment it says is “the surroundings or conditions in which a person, animal, or plant lives or operates”. This makes the environment important as it is responsible for plants, animals, food chains, the water and much more.

    Looking after the environment

Looking after the environment would be essential as the trees provide oxygen and create an ecosystem to provide habitat and food for birds and other animals. Trees absorb carbon dioxide and potentially harmful gasses, such as sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, from the air and releases oxygen. Keeping the world green would also mean that less animals would die. Also keeping the world healthy would mean that there won’t be as much floods and less risks of us dying.

    Looking after animals
If we look after the animals then it would mean that we would have more food and drinks which are what we need on a daily basis. Animals like dogs can teach us things and can look after the blind but animals can’t live without the environment so I think looking after the environment would be more important and would benefit our lives better.

Personally, I believe they are both as important as each other, the animals are there to help us look after the environment. this would put the environment on top as all the greenhouse gases we create are going into the atmosphere, causing global warming and climate change. the environment is important, plants give us oxygen and we live off the food the land provides naturally. if our ancestors and people before the year 1750 could survive without causing pollution, why can’t we?

  28. The question, “should we look after animals or the environment,” is a very complicated one as to destroy one of them is to destroy the other, for example, if you destroyed the environment you would be destroying the animals habitat giving them nowhere to live, therefore killing them.

We believe that looking after the environment is better because if your looking after the environment then your looking after the animals because you are protecting their habitats and without their habitat they will die. If you don’t look after the environment then the animals will have a poor quality habitat, air and poor quality food. This in turn will mean that the animals will be unhealthy, small and not worth eating.

  32. Foxfield Primary School Foxfield Primary School

    #JDfox
I think that we should look after the environment because the animals eat and hunt in the environment and most animals look after them selves for example a lion. A Lion is the king of the jungle because it is a savage creature that can: run fast, hunt well and take care of it family. all animals take care of there selves and loved one.

In my opinion, you should look after the environment first mostly because you need a natural environment to have happy and healthy animals and products such as, eggs from chickens and milk from cows also meat from various animals for the shoppers to enjoy.

I think that the environment is more important because even though you may think I don’t like animals I do. But I think the environment is more important to look after because the environment helps the animals because it is their habitat. Also if I chose animal then they still won’t be healthy because the environment will destroy their habitat and they won’t be god to eat. Also I think this because its good for our lives and because we need air and the trees to be alive .

in my opinion I think that we should LOOK AFTER the environment because it is the worlds sort of energy for example the trees they give as clean oxygen and take the carbon dioxide away from the air. i think looking after the environment is more important because if the air is cleaner then the animals can live for longer. also people can live without eating animals but the population would decrease if the air was in bad condition.

  39. Graveney School Graveney School

It’s a tough decision but the environment, i think, is slightly more important; besides if the environment isn’t safe or clean then those in it will not e safe or , probably, clean either. Animals can’t be looked after properly if their environment isn’t being cared for properly too.
e.g. A fish will not stay healthy, or even survive if it’s tank if dirty and/or unhygienic (not tended to/looked after)
    By RiverSmith06

  40. Graveney School Graveney School

Honestly, I am a little confused as to the relevance of this question. Although short term decisions that help the environment may harm some animals, the long term results of an environmental improvement action must result in the improvement of habitats. Therefore, animal populations will not decline if their habitats are still in good condition. The initial damage done to some animals by environmental actions is far outweighed by the benefits to their homes. That being said, unnecessary cruelty or negative impacts on animals should be avoided. I think that there are alternative ways to save the environment than not eating meat, although I do accept that current methods of livestock farming are responsible for significant ecological damage. We should change farming methods to save the environment and have humane treatment of animals as well. It shouldn’t have to be one or the other.
    By NellieBly:the2nd

  41. Graveney School Graveney School

I think we should protect the environment first as without a healthy environment we cannot have/be healthy animals. For example, if we carry on using using non-environmentally friendly cars and polluting the atmosphere, breathing unclean air can shorten our lifespan and our animals.

  42. Graveney School Graveney School

I think that looking after the environment is better because if the air is clean and there is less pollution, it will reduce the amount of animals that are unwell. If the animals are kept in a good habitat, they will most likely survive for longer.

I believe that this is a trick question because if we don’t look after the environment, the animals will be affected but if we don’t look after the animals, the environment would change. For instance, if we leave the plastic in the sea, sea life could get caught in it and die. Also if we didn’t look after animals, the plant life would be affected. Furthermore, if animals were treated poorly, the food chain would be heavily affected, leaving humans to become vegan or go extinct. by @The~Asgardian~Reporter

  45. St Mary's and St John's Church of England School St Mary's and St John's Church of England School

After a long time thinking I am posting another post as I think we should be looking after both the environment and the animals.

    Here are the reasons
    Environment
The more you don’t care about our environment, the more it will become polluted with contaminants and toxins that have a harmful impact on our health. Air pollution can cause respiratory diseases and cancer, among other problems and diseases.
Water pollution can lead to typhoid, diarrheal diseases, and another one.
The local authorities have to promote care the environment, we now that colombia its one of the most biodiversity countries around the world.Biodiversity refers to the variety of plants, animals, and other living things in our world. It can be negatively influenced by habitat loss and degradation due to human activity, climate change, and pollution, among other things.small changes in the average temperature can lead to frequent occurrences of dangerous weather patterns and devastating storms. Global warming and climate change are real. We are largely responsible for them because our activities have caused a continual increase in greenhouse gas concentrations.
The change in greenhouse gas concentrations causes global warming and affects the climate. Climate change may affect human health, agriculture, water resources, forests, wildlife, and coastal areas.

    Animals
To protect the well-being of animals, it is very essential to take care of them. Like us humans, animals deserve to be treated right. Although there are some philosophical and scientific debates whether animals are consciously aware of feeling decent or indecent welfare, it is our duty and responsibility to give them proper care. That is also one of the reasons why many organisations and associations all over the world are established – to safeguard the welfare of animals. They make sure that we do not abuse or harm animals whether they are our pet or a stray dog/cat that you see along the streets. This is not an issue of whether we are pet-lovers or not, it is a basic moral value that we treat every living thing with courtesy, compassion and kindness. The sad fact is that humans cause animal suffering. Sure, the natural world can be a brutal one, but animals are never deliberately cruel like people can be. As the supposedly higher species, we have a responsibility to care for other creatures. Do what you can to promote responsible and compassionate treatment of animals and other creatures.

  47. St Peter's Primary School St Peter's Primary School

I think protecting the enviroment is more important, my reason for this is that without the enviroment there is nowhere for the animals to live. For example if you protect the horse but not the field there is nowhere for the horse to be apart from crowded up with more horses. I think protecting the enviroment is more important for the wellfare of the animals and the wellfare of the enviroment. Protecting the enviroment is more important as it protects both the animal and the land.

    My Choice
I choose look after the environment. Because picture this there’s a lot of sheep’s in the UK right. Since there is too many sheep’s they eat the wood which gives us life like we get oxygen from them. So even though we need sheep’s for wool and etc. but too many sheep’s no tree’s no life so we need more trees have a whole forest of just tree’s. So I choose look after the environment!!.

I think that we should take care of the animals because in America, the park rangers reintroduced the wolves to the Yosemite river in the park and that solved the problem of the deers eating the trees. Also, without bees we wouldn`t have half of the world`s food such as, grapefruits and apples.
    PogbaRaven#6

  54. Ravenscroft Primary School Ravenscroft Primary School

The environment is more important than animals. Without plants or trees a, where would we get oxygen from? Obviously, if you have taken plants away right NOW, we would only have a specific time to live. Though, if we have taken away animals, we still would have a better chance of survival. Just meat isn’t enough for survival, but plants would keep you alive even if we had little variety.

Looking at the comments, lot of people have chosen the environment, over animals, and I agree. In a perfect world, you would, naturally choose both but deciding on one over the other is difficult. However, I believe that the decision of choosing the environment over animals is a simple one. Here is why:

I’m sure you have all heard about climates being destroyed, and animals suffering for it: polar bears struggling in the arctic, with the continually melting ice and tropical animals struggling in the rainforest because of deforestation. In fact, according to ‘ The World Counts’ website ‘Up to 28,000 species can go extinct in the next quarter century due to deforestation.’. This may seem that I am leaning towards supporting animals but that is not true. This statistic shows that without the suitable environment, animals cannot survive: they will go extinct. As I said earlier: in an ideal world you would choose both. Well, my point is that if you chose just animals, that would be impossible because you couldn’t have animals without their environment and so environment is the only one you can choose because animals depend on the environment for water, food, warmth, shelter: all the things they need to survive, and we are no exception: we need wood and elements like iron for the ground for making houses, we get crops fro the ground and warmth and light from the sun. Everything around you came, at some point because the earth produced it: your phone (it has metals mined from the earth), your copper baked beans can, the bricks holding the building up around you. Everything that exists has the environment to thank for it: nothing could breath if trees didn’t turn carbon dioxide that we breathe out into fresh oxygen!

It is a hard decision; animals and the environment are so closely linked, but the close linkage is the reason we need- they need the environment. If you choose the environment you leave yourself the possibility of having animals too; if you choose animals you will have animals that can’t even live at all because of the absence of a good environment.

Secondly, looking at it food wise, as we are looking at veganism in this topic after all, i would ,again, be siding with the environment, for several reasons: If we could only eat meat or vegetables, it is only sensible to choose vegetables, we can get most, if not all of the vitamins and nutrients we need from them. And to grow vegetables: we need the correct environment. Also, we feed animals vegetables, and we need the environment for growing vegetables. This means, again, we need a good environment to even have animals because animals need food.

All life stems for the environment and all animals, humans include it, need it for survival. The fact is, without the environment, we wouldn’t exist and animals wouldn’t exist either. This means, I suppose, looking at it in relation to a topic that means a vegan lifestyle compared to a meat- eating one; we live on plants not meat. It also means that we need to take better care of our environment: not dropping litter and watching out for our CO2 emissions.

Animals deserve to live because without we would lose more than thousands of food because if animals are killed there would be less food. Did you know that bee’s do more jobs than any other animal because they take pollen from pollen

I think we should look after environment and this is important because deers and sheep and other animals like sheep eat those young shoots and don’t let the nature grow .

I don’t think there is an explanation for this question. The reason (s) I think that is because we need plants to survive. Trees give us oxygen and smaller plants give us food (E.G. smaller plants could include vegetable or fruit plants) and products (the cotton plant can make clothes such as jeans or T-shirts) but then animals help us survive too. some eat plants but they then deposit the not-needed seeds into the ground and the seeds then start to grow again. disgusting I know but without it there wouldn’t be any life. herbivores (animals that only eat plants) cant survive without plants and plants cant survive without herbivores. now, if i switch to carnivores (meat eating animals) they cant survive without plants too. the reason for this is because they eat other animals. perhaps that animal is a herbivore. that herbivore needs plants to survive right? right. take a carnivore. any carnivore and we will just call it animal 1. animal 1 needs to eat other animals to survive. animal 1 finds another animal and eats it. the animal that was eaten is animal 2. animal 2 may be a herbivore. if it is they need to rely on plants to survive. if animal 2 ate a carnivore (animal 3) then that animal needs to rely on other animals that will eventually need to rely on plants. you get the idea. here’s another example in case you didn’t understand the first one. there’s a pyramid and its divided into three sections that have the same measurement in height but not in width or length. the first section is to represent the foxes in the world. the second represents the rabbits. and the third represents the grass. the foxes eat the rabbits who eat the grass. when the fox dies its body sinks into the grass and the body disintegrated into the soil. the disintegrated fox provides nourishment to the bacteria in the soil and they make the grass grow. then the rabbits eat it and so on so on. but wait. what if you take out the fox category? well, the rabbits are fine at first but then they start to double in size. the grass is all eaten up because there’s so many rabbits. the rabbits then starve to death and the grass has nothing to make it grow. if you take out the rabbits the foxes die and the grass dies too. if the grass category goes then, obviously, the rabbits will die of starvation. the foxes can feed off the carcasses (bodies) for a while but eventually they will have no food. the foxes will die off and then the grass does the same. see what i mean? everything dies if you take out one category. all life works like that. herbivore eats plants. carnivore eats herbivore. when herbivore dies its body makes food for the soil. the soil makes more plants, etc.
i hope you enjoyed my post

an addition to the rabbit fox plant pyramid is that there needs to be exactly the right number of animals at each time. sometimes people kill certain animals to either make space for others or that they are eating all the food. in australia people sometimes move koalas to others places because they eat so much and that they are stripping the area of the food and they are at risk of starvation.

Hi apples and pears i disagree as if we don’t look after the environment then there would be no animals.

Both are as important as each other really but I think enviroment problems kill animals so the enviroment is more important.

None can be overall more important. In my mind it is a never ending crisess of what will we kill?animals or plants?NOW first i what to ask is there a solution that says ‘neather’ as there may be a 3rd option. If yes then will ill take it. If no then we will try to make one. Lets think now. If eating meat takes up life and eating plants kills the enviroment then could we just not eat any? Sadly its not quite that simple as we do need to eat some thing to live. So could we just eat something different proberly not because i dont think there is any thing different to eat arpart from meat and plants. There’s always bugs but they arnt edible. So i guess its just a yes or no question. There is only two options to choose from meat or enviroment . Over all plants are the better option in a long term solotion because they do make oxygen witch makes us live and that would proberly be better than every one being dead in a few 1000 years. However killing plants might be bettter short term as it does not pollut as much as killing meat.
Although another point might be if we rely on animals then so do animals witch means than we kill plants we kill animal food breaking up the food chain.Killing animals! So i pressume that killing animals may be sad and undessirible but is over all proved as the right thing to do.
However I read recently that the meat indectry produces 80% of pollution in the world! How ever i guess killing plants is better then graduly killing them over 100s of years.
I guess my overall view is the plants are ever so slitly more importan then meat.Just dont get me wrong i still care about animals and if there were a third option i would take it.

    Hi!
Personally, I think that looking after both is the best option but I will try to choose.

    Environment:
Animals are living creatures, just like us! If looking after the environment helps us as humans, then surely it helps animals too. In addition, animals rely on the environment for survival and even though humans have incredibly advanced technology we do not have the technology (yet) to keep the entire animal kingdom alive. Also, the meat industry costs $864.2 billion in the USA! So in short, if the environment falls carnivorous people will not have any meat to eat in the long-term.

    Animals:
Killing plants will not make any more pollution. It will not harm an animal to cut down a tree.

So, in conclusion, I found more reasons to save the environment rather than saving animals because if we save one we will save the other. As they say, if you look after the pennies the pounds will look after themselvs.

I personally think the environment because if we take care of the environment the animals will be able to live in the conditions and produce better milk, beef, chicken, etc.
