Weekly Competition #36

questionsOne big thinking question was asked last week...

WHAT IF FOOTBALL HAD NEVER BEEN INVENTED?

Well done to everyone who entered this competition. We were curious to see what you came up with and we enjoyed reading about the community, the economy, and the national pride that come with the game. Congratulations to Ravenscroft and Graveney who were our winners this week, with well-reasoned and interesting answers!

This competition is now closed. You can enter this week's competition by clicking here

  1. People would be playing cricket as it is the second most popular game in the world as 2.5 billion watch cricket but 3.5 billion people watch football.t_buscuits

  2. If it hadn’t been invented, baseball could have been the global game, by research i found. There had been an incident where all the tickets had been sold out and many other fans broke the door or something and ran over other fans, causing many deaths.

  3. If Football was not invented then Cricket would’ve been the popular one. There is 18.6 million fans who watch football and there is 2.5 billion fans for Cricket.

  4. If football wasn’t invented then a lot of people would do cricket due to its popularity but they would then would have to make more teams then a lot of people would different sports.

  5. If there was no such thing as football ,children around the world wouldn’t have a inspirational thing to follow and will not be passionate about their future anymore. Ever since football has been a thing people have been challenging themselves to become a footballer especially women. Also if football wasn’t a thing there wouldn’t be jobs to offer which means people won’t get any money ; it has given people entertainment to forget about depression or to simply just to watch their footballers score goals . Also if there was no football countries wouldn’t have a chance to show what they can really do , not just what their government does. – FluffyisInterested-

I wouldn’t say that they wouldn’t get any money as there are many other jobs that you can get in the world. So they would still have a variety of jobs that they could do.

  6. If there was no such thing as football there would be another main sport to be watched (for example golf) that would be the main sport to be watched .If there was no such thing called The world cup, there would not be a main entertainment source in the world. Also if there was no football, mangers and footballers would not have there jobs which means they get no money to provide there family for food as well as providing a home for their family. But if for example when Iceland BEAT England 2-1 in the euro world cup England fans would not feel depressed at all because there would be no such thing to be depressed about as there would be no football . -Curiouspotato-

If football was never invented then how would other ball game be invented. My heart would sink if football wasn’t invented or they stopped football. It would save some of the world arguments though.

If foot ball had never been invented a lot of things would never happen. Like in England a lot of people come together during matches and a lot of people have found a passion for football and even made a name for them self like Beckham.
On the other hand if football had never been made a lot of people would never have bet on matches and lost money and even some people have bet on matches and lost things like cars and even houses and this can cause homelessness and yeah I know people bet on all different things but during events its mostly football.

If football wasn’t invented then people would probably play way more other sports like basketball or rugby. Instead of football players being famous basket ball and rugby players would be way more famous/popular and maybe people would be using more technology instead of going outside and watching or playing football.

If football had never been invented then it would probably be some other sport like basketball, instead of the FIFA football world cup it would be a new world cup and Ronaldo would be just a normal person along with Gareth bale. Anyone who plays professional football will not be recognised as a famous person anymore they would just be a normal citizen like everyone else. In my opinion i would like it if there was no football so my mum and dad wouldn’t scream at the TV while i’m in bed.

In my class football puts a smile on peoples faces and I like football because it shows that girls are capable too and everything that a boy can do a girl can too referring back to my first point not only does it bring a smile on my class it brings a smile on everyone’s face lots of people have cried in football the crowd and athletes and same people are like over that? Yes over that, that is how you know football means that much to them they would cry over missing a penalty without football in my opinion the world would be a boring place even though I don’t fully enjoy football I and I don’t usally play it but I would rather live in a world were they have football then don’t.

in my opinion i believe that without football life will be boring.and also football can be someones talent and if they do have football to play then they wouldn’t have their talent.and some other people enjoy watching football and if no one is playing then they can’t watch it because they enjoy it.and in football when a team scores a goal then they get happy and so do the crowd but if they can’t play it or watch it then there emotions could change.so if you sum it up without football peoples emotions can change e.g.from happy to angry or sad.

I believe if football had never been invented, then the world wouldn’t be able to express their talents to the fullest. However,if football wasn’t invented then to me personally,i wouldn’t express as much i am now because some people are saying that girls can’t play football, which i found quite sexist.Back to my point,i also think that the way that men and woman enjoy winning and rejoice then it wouldn’t be the same as now so if football wasn’t existed then the world would be dull and not diverse as it is now

  14. Colegrave Primary School Colegrave Primary School

Well, to most people it terrible for girls since, people can be very sexist to girls about sports. But in my humble opinion, sports to me is a talent and a speciality to most people because football is their life and if that was taken away from them, then they would basically be having their life taken away from them.

  16. If football hadn’t have been created 155 years ago, what would’ve happened? Here’s what I think:

    1. What Would Our Football Stadiums be Replaced by?
I think that our football stadiums would be replaced by important medical centres, schools and supermarkets to help our society. I think this because, quite recently the NHS has been struggling to fit patients into hospitals and not having enough money to buy new facilities/equipment. We could use the space to build schools instead, as this would help the Brazilian protesters that were found rallying earlier this year.

    2. What Would the 3.2 Billion People That Watch Football Watch Instead?
The 3.2 billon people that tune in to the World Cup every year would probably tune into cricket instead. It is a well known sport across Asia the largest continent in the world being 44.58 million km² (covering 29.2% of the world’s land area). There are across 2.5 billion fans of cricket in the world, countries like England, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Australia, New Zealand, the Caribbean and South Africa are mainly cricket playing nations and have national teams.

    3. Number of Football-Related Accidents Would Decrease
Every 5 years, over 500 people die from football-related accidents. Most deaths were the result of either brain or spinal-cord injuries, and heat! Even if you aren’t playing on the field, it can be severely dangerous too. If you search, ‘Football Fans Die After Being Trampled’ you’ll see many stories from the past, to the recent. A few years ago, 120 fans were trampled to death in a game in Ghana. Without football, many more people would be alive today.

During the great war, there was a truce. On Christmas day, there would be no fighting, and, they would play football instead. If football had never been invented, I believe that the great war could have had higher causalities and could have lasted longer. The Christmas day truce is apart of every war, therefore, every war would have played out differently.

Well if football had not been invented there would be no rugby because rugby was made from the generations of football and there are many other types of football like Australia rules football (the only one I know). But this would have not even been know or cared about. So personaly there would be point asking this question. And most accidents happen in football. And if your Ronaldo, then your basically dead. Becuase I saw in a match, Neymar Jr Lliteraly got hurt like ten times. (i never counted but its approx)

If football had never been invented then maybe the world will be a little bit more mature and might be able to connect with others. I also think that maybe it will be a little more boring because no one will be able to play football and not be able to entertain people who want to watch football.

If football wasn’t invented, all the political issues people feel strongly about would still be mixed with other sports. Football isn’t the only sport dealing with political links. When we have learned about the Olympics and raising the fists, it shows it wouldn’t matter which sporting event it was. People will always feel strongly about the issues that affect them.

  25. If football had not been invented, we would have different sports being played and invested in. For example, sports like rugby would be appreciated and also cricket, golf or even athletics.
I also think that not a lot would change because of these reasons- people would support cricket teams, attend rugby matches and play golf for leisure.

  26. If football suddenly ceased to exist, billions of pounds would be removed from the economy, and globally, the effect would be devastating. However, if it had never existed, the world would not be that different. Probably, a different sport such as cricket or rugby might be equally popular, and worth as much money, and the pounds spent on broadcasting football would be spent on one of these other sports. Many things about football that are bad are not really found in other sports: faking injury ridiculously high wages, and aggressive fans. Maybe the world might be better without football!
    By NellieBly:the2nd

  27. I live in a alternate world where football does not exist. The world’s economy is a lot less, firstly, companies and factories and sellers who sold merchandise, footballers’ uniforms and tickets don’t exist, and aren’t contributing to the economy. TV shows and channels following football don’t either, and less people watch TV, instead finding more active or constructive things to do. All the money used on the football is instead spent on charity and housing. However, other sports, such as cricket and hockey, are very competitive and receive a lot more attention. Sports are more focused on the fun and the love of the sport instead of money. Overall, this world may be a better place…

In our opinions we think that if football was not invented people would go and support another sport (such as basketball, dogeball and cricket).Football is a sport where people come together to support a team, footy fans don’t worry about differences between them they all have a common passion. The world would be a sadder place if people couldn’t share in a united passion. Nations who host world cups make lots of money and this is invested in (schools, transport, health etc) Countries would be poorer.

If football was not created people would have liked different sports for example basket basketball and dodge ball. Football is a sport where families get together in pice to each the World Cup like the ones that are going on today. football is a great sport where countries come to cheer for there team. when football is hosted in a poor country they mostly get over £1,000,000 or more to get there country to be able to protect there citizens.

The young children of the future will not be able pursuit their dreams of being a professional footballer, in the next generation -in addition ,the host of the World Cup will not get their financial benefits of being the host of the most famous football event ,whilst having millions from all over to watch football in their presence.Where this money will be given to the country’s governments ;this will go towards health care, education, transportation, etc.

If football wasn’t created then there would be less violence because people fight and riot over a FOOTBALL MATCH not stuff like politics they argue over two teams trying to play and have fun also some people love football so it could change their personality.

If football was never invented, who knows about how many changes there will be in the world! During the Christmas Truce in World War I, the armies who were once battling each other were now all together, playing a match of football. It taught them about teamwork and how it could be like without the war happening. Even though they had to continue to fight for their country the next day, I think it was very important to show what it could be like once the war was over. Nowadays, without football, there would be no World Cup, no entertainment for people. It feels as though football has brought everyone together. It has made people feel like they’re all in it together; nothing is separating them from supporting their country. Football has united everybody and without it, we wouldn’t learn what faith truly is.

If we lived in a world without football I believe the world would be dull. Not exactly dull, but boring. I believe this because along with the cons it brings people together,my whole family and I watched the football match and talked and laughed. Even though it might divide countries it brings fun into the world with supporting different people instead of us being boring. It brings competition into the world, it inspires young children to be athletic, all the boys and most of the girls enjoy playing football it’s the highlight of their day to play with their friends and try to win the match. It’s true their are other sport like cricket following behind football with the 2nd biggest sport but football has had the biggest impact on the nation and will continue to inspire, bring colour and so many wonderful things into this imperfect world..

If I was in a world without football I think that many of the subjects that create our society, such as competitiveness and loving our nationality, would disappear because a lot of citizens from a country, for example England, will love their country because of the success in tournaments (FIFA World Cup) therefore if football was to never of been invented, there could possibly be a small amount of residents feeling unproud of their home country. All countries are competitive in what they do, whether it comes to their local fun run or the Commonwealth Games, whereas a substantial amount of competitiveness will be lost if football didn’t exist. Also, the support of equality could lack on it’s numbers due to the loss of female competitors in sporting events. Football brings friendship, light and joy into the world as well as disagreements and political issues so having football as just an imagination is absolutely wrong. My family, including my neighbours, enjoy finding out the results of the latest England match and seeing their amazing goals! Football brings the world excitement.

If football was not created that means some people would not get payed as much as they are and the people. And the players now will not have as much fun as they do now. Also if footballs did not get invented then really popular business would not have got that popular without the adverting.

My view is that sometimes it is not OK to not have football.

I believe that if football wasn’t invented a lot more people would not be as active because a lot of people exercise through football and for a lot of people is really important because it might be the only sport to keep healthy through sport. It is also really easy to play at anytime because you only need a ball, which is really easy to get, however at other sports you need a lot more resources for playing. This sport entertains a lot of people too.

I think that if football hadn’t been invented, sooner or later someone would of thought of it. we wouldn’t be as entertained as football is quite a popular sport yet we would of paid more attention to a different sport. we wouldn’t have a world cup and I think that the world cup is very important because it is when all countries join together to play a good game of football and I believe that without football we wouldn’t join together and celebrate the world cup.
