Curiosity Corner Competition no.33

PikachuPanda3 asked this brilliant question last week; it really got the bottom of why people worry about fake news. People worry that fake news has the power to change an election. Some people would argue that voters should be well-informed if they are to make a decision but in reality, that isn’t the case.

People can make a decision based on good information or bad information and when it comes to an election, that decision will still count. That is why people worry about fake news; because even if someone’s vote is based on incorrect information, that vote still counts.

Well done, PikachuPanda3, this question shows you’ve really understood and been thoughtful about this issue!

Fake news can affect democracy by changing other peoples opinions into the opinion which is represented within the fake news causing untrustworthy sources of news to spread things that are not true and only used for publicity and extra votes for their own choice. Democracy is all about people having their own rights but not have someone change it into their own as if that was not what you originally thought about what is happening then it shouldn’t be altered unless there are pieces of evidence to show that it would make the country better. Shouldn’t the world be able to trust the news rather than have to question everything spoken about on the news to decide whether it is true or not?
