Enhanced Games - A Good Idea?

This post was written by a student. It has not been fact checked or edited.

Hello Topical Talkers,

This is a very controversial topic and all its aspects should be seen before judging it. The Enhanced Games are supposed to be played after consuming PEDs or Performance Enhancing Drugs. They are a lot like The Olympics, except, the players are supposed to take drugs that improve their performance instead of playing with only their natural talent.

With no doubt, PEDs will have many side effects and could lead to athletes having diseases in old age even if they were perfectly healthy throughout their adult life. Athletes who work very hard may even lose to the ones who consume PED and may not have put in that much effort. Under-developed countries that participate in the Olympics may not be able to participate in the Enhanced Games because drugs are expensive. This may even result in particular countries not being able to develop as well in sports as they won’t be able to participate in this big competition. Kids who want to become a professional in a particular sport may even think that the only way to do so is PED.

On the other hand, PEDs can also help athletes use their abilities to the fullest. We will have another competition that is supposed to work in a completely new and unexplored way. It is a novel idea, it has been scientifically tested and considered safe for athletes.

After discussing both the negatives and positives of Enhanced Games, I conclude that it is not safe for athletes and not completely fair. In my opinion, it should be banned as safety comes first.

What do you think?

  • Performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) encompass a broad range of substances and methods used to improve athletic performance. These substances can include anabolic steroids, stimulants, and more. The reasons athletes may use PEDs are varied, but they often seek to gain a competitive edge by enhancing strength, speed, etcIn conclusion, while PEDs may offer short-term performance benefits, the potential risks and ethical concerns associated with their use far outweigh any advantages. Upholding the principles of fair play, protecting the health and well-being of athletes, and preserving the integrity of sport necessitate strict regulations and enforcement against the use of performance-enhancing drugs.
