The Enhanced Games : are they fair?

This post was written by a student. It has not been fact checked or edited.

In the past few years multi-billionaire Peter Theiry has invested millions of dollars to create an event called the Enhanced Games. The Enhanced Games is a competition that allows athletes to take performance enhancing drugs such as steroids without being checked for doping (to take drugs). Though some people are in favour of the Enhanced Games, due to the fact that it could show us the possibilities what us humans could do, many are against because people think it is a unfair competition and could seep into other sports such as basketball, football etc.

It is believed by many that the Enhanced Games are the right way to proceed in sport and should be a respected known event. The following paragraphs demonstrate the arguments for.

Firstly, it is said that the enhanced games are safer compared to its cousin the Olympics due to the fact that since drugs are allowed, the enhanced games can research to find the safest and most effective drugs so that athletes do not suffer from taking too many drugs after the Olympics.

Secondly, many people argue that we already have advanced trainers, equipment, bikes, clothes so why can’t we have the most advanced medical enhancements allowed in competitions and events. We’ve already basically done it in the F1, man and machine here it is no different.

On the other hand, it is argued that it could affect the community because the government would focus their money on searching the best and most effective performance enhancing substance for the athletes, so then the focus is not about the athletes it is about the drugs. As well as that, if the government is spending the majority of its money on these substances and reseach, the community will be affected as less money would be spent on schools, police, roads and other public sector needs. Also, many are worried that the richer countries would be able to afford more and better drugs than poorer countries such as Malawi, so they would have the upper hand.

To conclude I believe that the Enhanced Games should not be allowed as I love the feeling of when you win a game based on your own skill and training in contrast the Enhanced Games does not encourage athletes to show the world their talent but to rely on drugs and medical substances .

  • I would say that the enhanced games are fair enough because in the enhanced games everyone has a part to play in it so I would say that the enhanced games are fair enough for everyone

    1. I disagree because I think that the Enhanced Games should not take place. This is for many reasons. First of all, by doping, you are taking a risk. This risk is your health, safety and your body. Now, all of these are extremely important and need to be looked after very well. Drugs can most certainly hurt you and this can be serious.
Next, it is not a good example. If young children, who want to be famous athletes, watch the Enhanced Games, it is more than likely they will think that it is right to take drugs and to not train. Personally, I do not think this is acceptable. To achieve great things and to get your rewards, you need to work hard for it. In somebody's comment earlier, I saw they wrote that if we sit back and take drugs, humans may become lazy and idle. - I completely agree with this and think it is a valid point.
Also, it will be unfair on some of the athletes who are taking part in the Enhanced Games. This will be because, as Precious_Cookie said, poorer countries will not be able to afford as good drugs as the richer countries. Then, the richer athletes will be taking higher-quality drugs but the poorer athletes will not, meaning there is a higher chance for the richer to win the event.
Lastly, similar to what Precious_Cookie explained, even if you do win the race in the Enhanced Games, you will not get a big sense of achievement because you have just been relying on drugs to improve yourself. You will not get that good feeling that you have done well. Plus, athletes can do the event well without the drugs. What is the point in the Enhanced Games if we can do all the events perfectly fine without drugs that will only harm our bodies later on in life?

  • I agree that the Enhanced Games should not be allowed, because it's technically not a legit sporting event. They're only performing with the effects of a drug, so it makes it fake. If an athlete is going to be part of a sporting event, they should use their real skill to play. Drugs are also very bad for your health, as they can lead to very bad issues with your organs. To conclude, the enhanced games should be stopped because it is a bad example to people and athletes.
